Bridport is just a few miles from a variety of beaches and coastal paths of the Jurrasic coast. West Bay , just 1.5/2 miles, 10 mins by car, bus or walk the river Brit and countryside to the Bay, approx 40 mins. Onwards to Burton Bradstock approx 4 miles and the spectacular Chesil beach. The A35, also takes you to the coastal towns of Charmouth and Lyme Regis, 8.5miles by car with the famous Cobb & organised fossil hunts and onwards to Beer.

Travel

The bus garage is 2 mins from Allington, buses run the coast from Poole in the East to Exeter in the West visiting Dorchester and Axminster where train stations are located. Enjoying the Dorset coast is easiest by car, but buses will take you to coastal walks and towns. Airports are located in Exeter 1hr and Bristol and Bornmouth 1.5 hrs driving time. Southampton, 2hrs. Ferry’s to/from French coast run from Weymouth, 35mins or Portsmouth and Plymouth also Channel islands both approx 1.5hrs.
Dorchester, Market town, museums and stations 25 minutes by car. Maiden Castle 20 mins by car. Lyme Regis 20 mins by car. Axminster and station 25 mins by car. Weymouth, Sea World and home for the sailing Olympics 2012 approx 40 mins. Exeter 40 miles. Bournmouth 40 miles.

Bridport, Dorset.

Bridport is the home of the unusual, a 3 day hat festival takes place in September, it is the home of the apple, a community apple orchard and an annual apple day is held., with wassailing in January. Food and art festivals are featured throughout the year. Snooks, our hatter and supplier of unusual attire, as featured in The Chap is located on West Street.

Restaurants and bars source local produce and the market each Weds and Saturday has an array of produce from local farms, garden plants and as well as the antique section which runs down South Street, at the bottom of which the leisure centre is situated just behind the famous Palmers brewery and has daily classes, gym and swimming pool available.

The Bridport Museum is open from April until October. Bridport hosts a range of unique shops, cafes and a variety of pubs, restaurants and bars which not only supply good food and drink The Ropemakers and Bar 10 regularly have live music in the evening. The Arts Centre and Electric Palace have a full programme all year ranging from the quirky to international acts and musicians.

All major banks are represented and also High Street Supermarket Waitrose and larger stores a few minutes from the town centre. The Alleyways and St Michaels trading hosts vintage shops and the art district with artists open studios, and the Red Brick Cafe. Also open air pizza on Friday nights from April through the summer. From West Bay you can hire small craft for picnics on the river Brid, or join a fishing trip for Mackerel. Leisure trips through the summer leave for Lyme Bay.

Kite sailing and windsurfing also take place alongside fishing off the beach. Nearby Weymouth has a long sandy beach and sailing and diving centres, the host town for the 2012 open water Olympic Games. Sailing, windsurfing and diving are catered for at Portland. Many small villages surround Bridport with farm shops and excellent restaurants and village pubs.

Many local pubs of the area sport skittle alleys and other traditional games.
